Weapon, drug charges filed in Trenton

TRENTON, NJ — Trenton police charged a city man after officers responding to gunfire recovered a loaded revolver, hollow-point ammunition and suspected narcotics early April 26.

Patrol officers Chaz Cason and Joseph Framo were in the area of North Broad and Perry streets at about 12:58 a.m. when they heard several shots fired, according to a police press release.

While searching the area for a possible victim or crime scene, the officers saw Robert M. Rivera, 34, of Trenton, police said.

Police said Rivera saw the officers and began leaving the area.

Officers saw him discard a firearm into a garbage can, according to police.

Rivera was taken into custody, and police recovered a loaded .38 Special Rohm revolver with several spent casings from the trash can, the release said.

A search incident to arrest found additional bullets and suspected narcotics identified by police as buprenorphine/naloxone sublingual, according to the release.

Additional officers conducted a sweep of the area and found no injured people, police said.

Rivera was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, certain person not to possess a weapon, possession of hollow-point rounds, possession of CDS, possession of CDS with intent to distribute, and resisting arrest/hindering apprehension.

Police said Rivera was taken to Trenton Police Headquarters and lodged pending transport to the Mercer County Workhouse.
