Pedestrian struck in crosswalk in Stamford

STAMFORD, CT — A pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a pickup truck in a marked crosswalk Saturday afternoon.

The collision occurred at approximately 2:04 p.m. at the intersection of Strawberry Hill Avenue and Colonial Road.

A 50-year-old Stamford resident was driving a 2014 Toyota pickup truck southbound on Strawberry Hill Avenue when the vehicle made a left turn to go eastbound on Colonial Road.

A 66-year-old Stamford resident was crossing southbound across Colonial Road in a marked crosswalk at the time.

The pedestrian was struck by the Toyota and knocked to the ground.

Stamford EMS transported the pedestrian to Stamford Hospital in critical condition.

The pickup truck driver remained at the scene and spoke with responding officers.

The driver was issued an infraction ticket for failure to grant the right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

No other charges have been filed at this time.

The Stamford Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is investigating the incident.
