ALBANY, NY — A construction superintendent turned himself in to authorities after allegedly downloading child sexual exploitation videos from a device he was supposed to report to police.

Hernando Lamela, 53, of White Plains, New York, was arrested April 17 on a charge of possessing a sexual performance by a child, a class E felony.

On Nov. 10, 2025, a contractor found a media storage device at a government building on Swan Street in Albany.

The contractor’s supervisor turned the device over to Lamela, who was employed as a construction superintendent for a subcontracted engineering firm.

Lamela filed a report Nov. 11, 2025, after discovering the device contained images consistent with child sexual exploitation and turned it over to State Police.

An investigation by State Police and the Troop G Computer Crimes Unit determined that before turning over the device, Lamela allegedly downloaded hundreds of videos consistent with child sexual exploitation from the device to his personal computer.

Lamela surrendered himself to State Police of the Capital, where he was arrested and processed.

He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Albany City Court on May 8 and released.
