Man arrested on assault, weapons charges in Broadalbin

BROADALBIN, NY — State Police of Mayfield, with the assistance of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, arrested Donald W. Edson, 52, of Broadalbin, on April 21, 2026.

Edson faces charges of assault 2nd, a class “D” felony; criminal possession of a weapon 3rd, a class “D” felony; aggravated family offense, a class “E” felony; and criminal obstruction of breathing, a class “A” misdemeanor.

At about 7 a.m., troopers responded to a home on County Road 107 in Broadalbin for the report of a physical altercation.

The investigation determined that Edson was in a physical altercation with the victim during which he allegedly obstructed the victim’s breathing and caused them significant injuries.

The victim was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment and later released.

Edson fled the home before law enforcement’s arrival.

A search of the area utilizing K9s, Unmanned Aerial Systems and aviation yielded negative results.

Edson returned to the home briefly before fleeing again.

Further investigation determined Edson has been convicted of a family offense within the last five years.

In addition, Edson was found to possess firearms in the home, which he cannot legally have due to a previous felony conviction.

All firearms were seized.

Edson was located and arrested walking along the wood line near the home at approximately 4:05 p.m. and transported to SP Mayfield for processing.

He was then turned over to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office for processing on an active, unrelated arrest warrant.

Edson was then arraigned at the Fulton County Centralized Arraignment Part Court, where he was remanded to the Fulton County Correctional Facility without bail.
