NORTH SALEM, NY — Members of the New York State Police Troop K Traffic Incident Management Unit conducted an Operation Hard Hat detail on Interstate 684 on April 23, 2026.
Operation Hard Hat details are conducted to enhance the safety of both highway workers and motorists in active work zones.
Each year, crashes in work zones result in serious injuries and fatalities, most often due to speeding, distracted driving, and other unsafe behaviors.
During the detail, troopers were positioned within the active work zone to observe violations in real time and take enforcement action when necessary.
In a four-hour period, troopers issued a total of 72 tickets.
