HYANNIS, MA — A 19-year-old man was arrested on child pornography charges following the execution of a search warrant at a residence in Hyannis.

Joao Nascimento, of Hyannis, was taken into custody on April 23 after Barnstable Police detectives, with assistance from the United States Secret Service New England Cyber Fraud Task Force, executed the search warrant.

Nascimento was charged with possession of child pornography and dissemination of child pornography.

The search warrant and arrest resulted from a CyberTip received by the Massachusetts State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force that was assigned to a task force officer from the Barnstable Police Department Investigative Services Division.

The CyberTip alleged that a device, later identified as belonging to Nascimento, likely possessed and disseminated child pornography.

The investigation revealed Nascimento’s cellphone contained child pornography images and evidence related to the online profile used to facilitate the dissemination of child pornography.

Nascimento was booked at the Barnstable Police Department on charges of possession of child pornography and distribute material of child in nude.

He was arraigned at Barnstable District Court on Friday.

The court ordered Nascimento held on $1,000 cash bail after the Commonwealth requested $5,000 bail.

Nascimento is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing on May 13, 2026.

The case is being prosecuted by the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s Office.
