Person rescued from bridge in Schenectady

SCHENECTADY, NY — Officers from the Schenectady Police Department responded to the Cotton Factory Hollow Bridge on April 21, 2026, for a report of an individual who had climbed onto the other side of the fencing over I-890.

The call came in at approximately 5:34 p.m.

Officers began speaking with the individual upon arrival.

A negotiator from the Schenectady Police Department responded to assist, along with members of the Schenectady Fire Department.

After a short time, the individual was secured and brought back through the fencing to safety, where they received assistance.

The Schenectady Police Department thanked the Schenectady Fire Department for their assistance in safely resolving the incident.

The department also thanked the New York State Police for their assistance in quickly diverting traffic below on I-890 until the incident came to a safe conclusion.

Due to the nature of the incident, no identifying information for the individual was provided.
