GREENBURGH, NY — New York State Police arrested a Haverstraw man on aggravated driving while intoxicated charges following a vehicle fire on the New York State Thruway on April 17, 2026.
Tulsiram Singh, 35, of Haverstraw, was arrested after troopers responded to a vehicle fire on Interstate 87 near mile marker 14 southbound at approximately 10:56 p.m.
Troopers observed a man walking northbound on the southbound shoulder away from a 2023 Nissan Frontier that was fully engulfed in flames.
Troopers identified the man as Singh, the operator of the Nissan, and observed signs of alcohol impairment.
Singh performed standardized field sobriety tests and a portable breath test, both of which returned positive for impairment.
Investigation revealed Singh struck the concrete barrier on the Thruway before his vehicle came to a stop.
Prior to entering the Thruway, Singh struck several parked vehicles in the Palisades Mall parking lot.
Singh was transported to State Police Tarrytown for processing, where he submitted to a chemical breath test that indicated a blood alcohol content of 0.21 percent.
Singh was charged with driving while intoxicated and aggravated driving while intoxicated.
Singh was not injured in the vehicle fire and was released to a sober third party.
He is due in Greenburgh Town Court on May 4, 2026.
