Suspect arrested for stealing police bicycle in Boston

BOSTON, MA — A 19-year-old Illinois man was arrested after allegedly stealing a police bicycle while officers were dispersing a crowd on Marathon Monday.

Officers assigned to the Boston Police citywide bicycle unit were moving a large crowd from the backyards of multiple homes on Foster Street at about 10:15 a.m. on Monday.

Officers were assisted by the Massachusetts State Police, Somerville Police, and Boston Housing Police.

While police began to disperse the crowd, they had their bicycles parked in front of 292 Foster Street.

A suspect jumped onto a police bicycle and began riding towards Foster Street and Radnor Road.

The male dismounted the bike in the driveway of 284 Foster Street and jumped over a fence in an attempt to flee.

Multiple officers converged on the location and placed the suspect into handcuffs.

Augustus Peterson, 19, of Evanston, Illinois, was placed under arrest and is expected to be arraigned in Brighton District Court for larceny over $1,200.
