Man arrested on assault charge in Ulster

ULSTER, NY — A Kingston man has been arrested after allegedly stabbing another man during an altercation in a shopping mall parking lot.

Mark D. Olsson IV, 23, of Kingston, was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

The Ulster Police Detective Division began investigating after the City of Kingston Police Department responded to Health Alliance Hospital of the Hudson Valley on April 18, 2026, for a victim of an assault.

Police determined the male victim was stabbed during an altercation that occurred in the Kings Mall parking lot at 1200 Ulster Avenue.

Detectives learned that during a physical altercation between two males, one man stabbed the other in the chest using a sharp object, causing serious physical injury.

Olsson was transported to the Ulster County CAP Court, where he will await arraignment.
