Man shot in Albany

ALBANY, NY — Albany police are investigating an early morning shooting that occurred on Benson Street.

On Saturday, April 18, 2026 around 3:50 a.m., officers responded to the area of Benson Street and Quail Street for reports of shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers located evidence of gunfire.

Approximately five minutes after the initial report of shots fired, staff from Albany Medical Center Hospital notified police that a male had entered the emergency room with a gunshot wound.

Officers responded to Albany Medical Center where they located a 37-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the back.

Further investigation determined that the victim was traveling on Benson Street in a vehicle when he was shot.

The victim self-transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital where he is listed in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation is active and ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Albany Police Detective Division at (518) 462-8039.
