Woman charged with assault in Dannemora

DANNEMORA, NY — New York State Police charged a woman with multiple offenses after she allegedly threw weapons at officers responding to an overdose call April 11, 2026.

Melissa J. Maynard, 37, of Saranac, was charged with Assault in the 2nd Degree (intent to cause physical injury with a weapon), six counts of Menacing a Police or Peace Officer, Reckless Endangerment in the 2nd Degree, Obstruction of Governmental Administration in the 2nd Degree, and five counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree (previous convictions).

Troopers responded to Flagg Street in the village of Dannemora at approximately 2:41 p.m. for a reported overdose.

An investigation determined that Maynard was acting in an irate manner, breaking and throwing items and preventing paramedics from rendering medical aid.

Troopers and members of the Sheriff’s Department entered the residence to make contact with Maynard.

While attempting to speak with her, Maynard threw dangerous items at officers, including axes, hammers, and a hatchet.

A trooper displayed a taser and issued commands, which Maynard ignored.

The trooper then deployed the taser, and officers were able to take Maynard into custody.

Maynard sustained a hand injury and was transported to CVPH Medical Center for treatment.

She was later released and returned to the custody of the New York State Police.

Maynard was processed at SP Plattsburgh and arraigned in the Town of Peru Court.

She was remanded to Clinton County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail, $75,000 partially secured bond, or $150,000 bond.

The Clinton County Sheriff’s Department assisted with the incident.
