CORTLAND, NY — A homeless man faces multiple felony charges after allegedly fleeing from officers and attempting to destroy evidence during an arrest.
Shane K. Granger, 48, of Cortland, was taken into custody following a foot pursuit on April 10.
Officers from the Cortland County Drug Task Force observed Granger operating an electric assist bicycle on Owego Street at approximately 3:27 p.m.
Granger was wanted by the City of Cortland Police Department and fled when officers approached him, according to the sheriff’s office.
During the arrest, officers found controlled substances that Granger was allegedly attempting to destroy and conceal.
Granger was also found in possession of additional controlled substances, narcotics paraphernalia and U.S. currency, police said.
The controlled substances have an approximate street value of $250.
Granger was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree, criminally using drug paraphernalia in the first degree, tampering with physical evidence, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree and resisting arrest.
He was arraigned through the Centralized Arraignment Process at 8 p.m. and remanded to the Cortland County Jail without bail.
His next court appearance is scheduled for April 27 at 9 a.m. in Cortland City Court.
