BOSTON, MA — A two-month investigation by the Boston Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit and the FBI’s Metro Boston Gang Task Force resulted in the arrest of a Dorchester man on firearms and drug charges.
Keto Powell, 51, of Dorchester, was arrested Wednesday at approximately 11:52 a.m. in front of a convenience store at 1580 Dorchester Avenue.
Powell was taken into custody without incident after investigators executed two search warrants issued out of Dorchester District Court.
A search of Powell’s person yielded approximately 7 grams of crack cocaine, a quantity of marijuana, U.S. currency and empty clear plastic sandwich bags.
Investigators then executed a residential search warrant at an apartment at 46 Mallon Road in Dorchester, which was determined to be an illegal rooming house.
One additional individual was located during a protective sweep and was detained and removed from the apartment without incident.
Using keys recovered from Powell, investigators identified and accessed Powell’s room.
The search recovered four firearms, including an Iver Johnson .45 caliber pistol with 7 rounds in the magazine, a Smith and Wesson .40 caliber pistol with 10 rounds in the magazine, a Taurus Arms 9mm pistol with ammunition in the magazine and chamber, and a Bauer .25 caliber pistol with 5 rounds in the magazine.
Three of the firearms had obliterated serial numbers.
Investigators also recovered one large capacity ammunition feeding device capable of holding more than 10 rounds, one 10-round 9mm magazine, multiple rounds of .45, .40 and 9mm caliber ammunition, one plastic bag containing an unknown white substance, sandwich bags, a razor blade, four digital scales and an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency.
Powell was transported to Nashua Street Jail and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of drinking alcoholic beverages in public, possession of a firearm without an FID card, possession of ammunition without an FID card, possession of a Class B substance with intent to distribute and improper storage of a large capacity firearm.
