CANAAN, ME — A traffic stop for an expired inspection sticker led to the seizure of more than 200 grams of drugs and the arrest of two women.
Deputy Allen Jones conducted the traffic stop on Easy Street at approximately 11 p.m. Monday after observing a vehicle with an expired inspection sticker leaving the Circle K.
Jones had observed Shania Tripp, 28, formerly of St. Albans, get into the passenger side of the vehicle and knew she had an active warrant and was on probation.
Tripp was arrested on the warrant, and a search of her belongings revealed 86.756 grams of crack cocaine, according to the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.
Tripp told Jones she was concealing Fentanyl on her person.
The driver, Krista Robinson, 42, of St. Albans, was also searched.
Jones located a large quantity of drugs discarded on the ground on the passenger’s side of the vehicle that were not there when Tripp exited, according to the sheriff’s office.
A total of 114 grams of crack cocaine and 8.763 grams of Fentanyl were seized.
Tripp was charged with aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs and violation of conditions of release.
She is being held at the Somerset County Jail without bail on a probation hold.
Robinson was charged with unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs, falsifying physical evidence and unlawful possession of scheduled drugs.
She is being held at the Somerset County Jail on $25,000 cash bail.
Both women are scheduled to appear in Somerset County Unified Criminal Court at 8:30 a.m. June 3, 2026.
