COVENTRY, RI — A months-long narcotics investigation resulted in the seizure of approximately 1.8 pounds of suspected cocaine and the arrest of two men on drug trafficking charges.

Richard Martin Jr., 33, of Coventry, was identified as the primary target of the investigation conducted by the Coventry Police Department’s Special Operations Unit.

Detectives executed multiple court-authorized search warrants on April 6 in Coventry and Warwick with assistance from the Warwick Police Department.

During a search in Coventry, detectives and K9 Nixo located the suspected cocaine concealed in a sophisticated vehicle hide.

A 9mm handgun, a large sum of U.S. currency and packaging and weighing materials consistent with drug trafficking were also recovered from the residence.

Martin was charged with two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, use of a firearm while committing a crime of violence and controlled substance conspiracy.

Jason Tallo, 40, of Warwick, was arrested in Coventry and charged with controlled substance conspiracy.

Both men were arraigned April 7 at Kent County District Court.

Martin was ordered held without bail pending further court proceedings.

Tallo’s bail was set at $25,000 with surety.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing and additional arrests are expected.
