Fraudulent RMV text messages reported in Westfield

1 min read

WESTFIELD, MA — The Westfield Police Department has received multiple reports over the past two days of residents receiving fraudulent text messages claiming to be from the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles.

The messages state that recipients have unpaid traffic citations and include a link to make a payment, often threatening license suspension if the issue is not resolved immediately.

Police said the messages are a scam.

Similar activity was reported around this time last year, according to police.

The RMV does not send text messages requesting payment for citations.

Police are advising residents not to click on links in unsolicited texts or emails and not to provide personal or financial information.

Residents who are unsure about the legitimacy of a message should independently look up official RMV contact information and verify directly, police said.
