Vehicle struck by train in Clinton

CLINTON, MA — A motor vehicle was struck by a train at the Sterling Street railroad crossing Tuesday morning.

Officers from the Clinton Police Department and firefighter/EMTs from the Clinton Fire Department responded to the scene at approximately 8 a.m.

Responding officers found the operator standing outside the vehicle when they arrived.

The operator reported no injuries from the crash.

As a precaution, the operator was evaluated by the Clinton Fire Department/Ambulance.

The vehicle sustained heavy damage to the rear passenger side before spinning around from the impact of the crash.

The motor vehicle was traveling westbound when it was struck by the train traveling northbound.

The crash caused Sterling Street to be closed at the location of the crossing until approximately 10:20 a.m.

The railroad crossing warning signals, flashing red lights and audible bells were working and activated when the crash occurred.

The accident is under investigation by Clinton Police Officer Jeffrey Notaro, with the cooperation of CSX Railroad.
