PLYMOUTH, CT — A 53-year-old man was arrested on five counts of voyeurism after police say he secretly recorded people in a home using hidden cameras disguised as household items.
Samuel E. Rodriguez, of Terryville, was taken into custody on April 13 by the Plymouth Police Department.
The investigation began in May 2023 after a resident reported finding a hidden camera inside a bathroom.
Police determined Rodriguez had secretly installed two covert recording devices in areas of the home where residents and guests had a reasonable expectation of privacy.
The devices were disguised as a Bluetooth speaker and an air purifier, according to police.
The cameras were configured to send Rodriguez alerts when individuals entered the bathroom or a bedroom, enabling him to view, record and photograph them without their knowledge, police said.
A Superior Court judge authorized a search warrant allowing officers to seize cameras, phones and computers belonging to Rodriguez.
An examination of the devices revealed multiple images and videos of individuals in various stages of undress who were unaware they were being recorded, according to police.
Rodriguez was processed and held on a $200,000 bond.
He appeared in Superior Court on April 14.
Police are encouraging the public to remain vigilant regarding unfamiliar or out-of-place electronic devices in private areas of homes, rental properties or businesses.
