JAMESTOWN, NY — A passenger in a vehicle stopped for traffic violations was arrested after police found him in possession of a loaded stolen handgun.
Chris L. Freeney was taken into custody at approximately 7:45 p.m. April 9, 2026, following a traffic stop in the northeast area of the city.
Officers assigned to the Jamestown Police Department’s Second Platoon stopped the vehicle after observing equipment violations and a moving violation.
During the investigation, officers discovered Freeney was in possession of a loaded handgun.
Freeney does not possess a valid New York State Pistol Permit.
He has been convicted of three felonies and twenty misdemeanors in his lifetime, according to police.
Freeney resisted arrest, causing a brief struggle with officers before being taken into custody.
Further investigation revealed the handgun had been reported stolen on a previous date in Jamestown.
Freeney was transported to the Jamestown City Jail, where he is being held pending arraignment.
He is charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, and resisting arrest.
