Man arrested on weapons charges in Utica

UTICA, NY — Police arrested an 18-year-old man after officers observed him allegedly attempting to conceal a weapon in his waistband while riding a bicycle.

Officers assigned to the Tactical Unit, partnered with Oneida County Sheriff Deputies, were patrolling the area of Square Street on April 11, 2026, at approximately 6:10 a.m. in connection with ongoing weapons possession investigations.

An officer witnessed a male on a bicycle engaging in actions consistent with an individual carrying a weapon and attempting to conceal the item in his waistband.

Based on these movements and vehicle and traffic law violations, officers conducted a stop on the 200 block of Square Street.

While speaking with the male, officers developed cause to conduct a pat frisk and felt a handgun in the male’s waistband.

The weapon was removed and the individual was placed into custody.

Upon inspecting the weapon, it was found to be loaded with an extended 30-round magazine.

Tha Oh, 18, of Utica, was transported to the Utica Police Department and charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, criminal possession of a firearm and vehicle and traffic law violations.
