BATH, NY — A 41-year-old man was arrested after police responded to a report of a woman being held against her will at an apartment on April 3, 2026.
Members of the Village of Bath Police Department were dispatched at approximately 9:41 p.m. to a third-party report of a female being held inside an apartment against her will.
The reporting party was unsure of the exact address but was able to describe the location.
Responding officers determined the address to be 9 Howell Street in the Village of Bath.
Upon further investigation, the suspect was identified as Anthony Truax, 41, of Bath.
Officers located the victim and safely removed her from the residence.
Officers then attempted to take Truax into custody, at which time he resisted arrest.
After a brief struggle, Truax was placed under arrest.
Truax was charged with rape in the first degree, a class B felony, unlawful imprisonment in the second degree, a class A misdemeanor, and resisting arrest, a class A misdemeanor.
Truax was processed and transported to the Steuben County Jail for arraignment, where he was remanded without bail.
Truax had self-inflicted facial injuries prior to law enforcement arrival.
Truax is a three-time convicted felon in the state of New York and is currently listed in the New York State Sex Offender Registry as a level 2 offender stemming from a 2006 conviction of attempted sexual abuse in the first degree.
