TYRE, NY — New York State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision that occurred on State Route 414 on April 10, 2026.
The crash happened at approximately 8:55 a.m. in the town of Tyre, Seneca County.
A 2020 Chevrolet Equinox operated by a 16-year-old male from Clyde was traveling southbound on State Route 414 when the vehicle crossed into the northbound lane on a slight curve in the roadway.
The Equinox collided head-on with a 1985 Peterbilt semi-tractor operated by Nelson S. Sensenig, 48, of Romulus.
Sensenig attempted to avoid the collision and applied his brakes but was unable to do so.
Sensenig was not injured in the crash.
The 16-year-old, who was the sole occupant of the Equinox, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Members of the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit conducted a post-crash inspection of the tractor-trailer, which was hauling an empty trailer.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was evaluated at the scene and showed no signs of alcohol or drug impairment.
The investigation is continuing.
