Man arrested after pursuit, crash in Albany

ALBANY, NY — A 19-year-old man faces multiple charges after allegedly fleeing from police in a stolen vehicle and crashing into a building.

Christopher J. Soto, of Albany, was arrested April 1, 2026, and charged with criminal possession of stolen property 4th, a class E felony, unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle 3rd, a class A misdemeanor, and resisting arrest, a class A misdemeanor.

State Police troopers attempted to stop a vehicle on Second Street at about 12:42 p.m. for a vehicle and traffic law violation.

The driver, later identified as Soto, failed to comply and a vehicle pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit ended when Soto lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a building on North Manning Boulevard.

Soto then fled on foot but was quickly taken into custody.

Further investigation discovered the vehicle had been reportedly stolen from Lark Street shortly before the pursuit was initiated.

Soto was transported to State Police Capital for processing.

He was arraigned at Albany City Court, where he was remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility in lieu of $15,000 cash, or $30,000 bond, or a $60,000 partially secure bond.

Soto also faces numerous vehicle and traffic law violations.
