Man arrested on weapons charges in Corinth

CORINTH, NY — A 49-year-old man was arrested Tuesday on charges stemming from an incident in which he allegedly threatened a sheriff’s deputy with kitchen knives.

Roy R. Cheyenne, of Corinth, was taken into custody on an arrest warrant issued by the Corinth Town Court.

He is charged with menacing a police officer, criminal possession of a weapon in the 3rd degree, unlawful imprisonment in the 1st degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the 4th degree.

Cheyenne is accused of intentionally placing a Saratoga County sheriff’s deputy in reasonable fear of death by displaying kitchen cutting knives and acting as though he was going to throw them at the deputy.

He is also charged with possessing knives having previously been convicted of a crime and unlawfully restraining another person by not providing them with a key to open an interior padlock while he was armed with knives.

The incident reportedly occurred Feb. 24 at 10:43 a.m. in the village of Corinth.

Cheyenne was arraigned before the Honorable Lane J. Schermerhorn in the Corinth Town Court and remanded to the Saratoga County Jail pending further proceedings.

Menacing a police officer and criminal possession of a weapon in the 3rd degree are class D felonies.

Unlawful imprisonment in the 1st degree is a class E felony.

Criminal possession of a weapon in the 4th degree is a class A misdemeanor.
