CANDOR, NY — A man was arrested after allegedly stabbing his stepbrother during a domestic incident at a residence on Lathrop Road.
John D. Penalvert, 54, of Candor, was taken into custody on April 2 after a search that involved multiple law enforcement agencies.
The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a stabbing at 61 Lathrop Rd. at around 11:53 a.m.
Investigators determined that Penalvert allegedly stabbed John Adrat Jr., 37, of Candor, in the abdomen during a domestic incident.
Penalvert allegedly fled the residence on foot and entered the surrounding wooded area.
Adrat was initially transported in a personal vehicle to the Lourdes walk-in care facility in Owego where immediate care was rendered by staff.
He was eventually transported by Campville EMS to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City in serious but stable condition.
Sheriff’s office investigators, deputies and members of the New York State Police immediately began searching for Penalvert.
The Tioga County Drone Unit performed an aerial search, and a New York State Police canine performed a track of the suspect.
Penalvert was located approximately 2.5 miles from the residence by sheriff’s deputies and taken into custody without incident.
Investigators executed a search warrant at the residence and on Penalvert’s person.
Penalvert was arrested for assault in the first degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child as the incident allegedly took place in the presence of three young children.
He was arraigned in Tioga County CAP Court and remanded to the Tioga County Jail with no bail.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by New York State Police uniformed troopers and canine unit, and Campville EMS.
Man arrested on criminal mischief charge in Owego

OWEGO, NY — A man was arrested on charges of criminal mischief and aggravated harassment.
Zacharia Beaver, of Owego, was arrested on April 4 by the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office.
During the investigation, it was found that Beaver destroyed property that did not belong to him and also harassed the victim via cellular device prior to destroying said property.
Beaver was taken to the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office where he was held for CAP and was later released on his own recognizance.
He will appear in the Town of Owego Court at a later date.
