Puppy abandoned in Albany

ALBANY, NY — Investigators from the Albany Police Department’s Special Operations Unit are attempting to identify an individual in connection with an ongoing animal cruelty investigation.

On Monday, April 6, 2026 around 5:30 a.m., an individual abandoned a female puppy by placing her in a crate and leaving her on the sidewalk in front of Albany City Court on Morton Avenue.

The puppy, now named Ayla, was discovered by a passerby who contacted the police.

Ayla was transported to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society in poor condition, but is currently stable.

At this time the investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information on the identity of the individual is asked to contact Albany Police Department’s Animal Control at (518) 462-7107 and leave a message for investigators.
