Sheriff’s vehicle struck during traffic stop in Schoharie

SCHOHARIE, NY — A marked Schoharie County Sheriff’s Office vehicle was struck by a Volkswagen Jetta during a traffic stop on Interstate 88 on Sunday at approximately 9:15 p.m.

Sheriff’s deputies were conducting a vehicle stop when the eastbound Jetta struck the marked unit in the Town of Schoharie.

Deputies immediately began rendering aid to the occupants of the Jetta.

The occupants of the Volkswagen were treated at the scene and transported to Albany Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

The individual from the vehicle stop sustained minor injuries and was transported to Ellis Hospital for treatment.

No Sheriff’s Office personnel were injured.

Interstate 88 was closed for a short period of time for accident reconstruction.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the New York State Police, Central Bridge Vol. Fire Dept., Central Bridge Ambulance, Schoharie Vol. Fire Dept., Cobleskill Ambulance, Schoharie County EMS and New York State D.O.T.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
