WATERBURY, CT — A convicted felon was arrested on multiple weapons charges after a probation compliance check on March 30, 2026.
Juannel Herrera, 25, of Waterbury, was taken into custody by officers from the Waterbury Police Department’s Gang Task Force, Vice and Intelligence Unit, Crime Prevention Unit, and the Auto Theft Task Force, who were assisting probation officers.
Police said Herrera has a history involving stolen firearms and motor vehicles.
During the investigation, officers seized a Springfield Hellcat 9mm firearm, ammunition, and a high-capacity magazine.
The firearm had been reported stolen out of Bellows Falls.
Herrera was charged with theft of a firearm, illegal sale or transfer of a firearm, responsibilities regarding storage of firearms, criminal possession of pistols and or revolvers, criminal possession of firearms or ammunition, and two counts of illegal possession of a high-capacity magazine.
Police said Herrera is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition due to his status as a convicted felon.
