OXFORD, PA — A 28-year-old Oxford man was convicted of stalking and harassment on March 13 following a jury trial.

John V. Kearney was found guilty of eleven counts of stalking and related charges before Judge Allison Bell Royer.

According to the Chester County District Attorney’s Office, Kearney had a long history of stalking the victim and continued to pursue her while serving a prison sentence by sending her letters.

In 2018, Kearney was arrested for breaking into the victim’s home at night and pleaded guilty to defiant trespass and harassment.

In 2019, he followed the victim in broad daylight, violating court-ordered no-contact orders, and pleaded guilty to misdemeanor stalking and harassment.

In 2020, Kearney tracked the victim to a residence in the middle of the night and attempted to contact her, then pleaded guilty to felony stalking and harassment.

Kearney was released from prison in 2023 but was re-arrested after attempting to locate the victim and was sent back to Chester County Prison.

While in prison, he continuously wrote letters to the victim and attempted to call her over 236 times between March 7 and May 12, 2024.

The Oxford Police Department was notified by the district attorney’s office on Nov. 15, 2023, of a harassment and stalking incident involving a letter Kearney wrote to the victim from the state correctional facility.

After being paroled, Kearney was ordered to have no contact with the victim or her residence and was placed on electronic monitoring.

In June and September 2023, electronic monitoring GPS showed Kearney was in the vicinity of the victim’s residence.

In October 2023, he attempted to contact the victim’s daughter via social media.

Kearney was arrested on Nov. 16, 2023, and a warrant was served on him while he was housed in Chester County Prison on a parole violation.

He was arraigned and held on $75,000 cash bail.

A preliminary hearing was held on Dec. 12, 2023, at Oxford District Court, where all charges were held to the Court of Common Pleas.

Kearney will be sentenced at a later date.
