BOSTON, MA — Three men were arrested Thursday following a shooting that left one person with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound in Roxbury.
At approximately 1:03 p.m. on April 2, officers assigned to District B-2 responded to the area of Dudley Street and Mount Pleasant Avenue for a report of shots fired.
Prior to officers’ arrival, an off-duty sergeant from District D-4 who was stopped at a red light at Dearborn Street and Dudley Street heard multiple gunshots and broadcast the incident.
Responding officers located a white Infiniti sedan on the Massachusetts Avenue Connector that was connected to the incident and stopped the vehicle without incident.
The driver, David Carrasquillo, 24, of Roxbury, was placed under arrest after officers recovered a firearm from his waistband.
Investigators reviewing video surveillance footage observed Carrasquillo discharge a firearm in the direction of Zeigler Street, where three individuals were observed returning fire.
Officers responding to the Zeigler Street area established a perimeter around 121 Zeigler Street after receiving information that suspects had entered the residence.
The SWAT Team and additional officers responded after additional units from Special Operations were requested for the barricaded suspects.
Shortly after, three males and one female exited the residence.
Two of the males, David Ortiz, 19, of Boston, and Eliel Pena, 18, of Roxbury, were identified as individuals observed in surveillance footage firing in the direction of Carrasquillo and were placed under arrest.
During a protective sweep of the residence, officers observed in plain view a cartridge and two firearms.
Upon execution of a search warrant, investigators recovered two firearms, additional magazines, ammunition, and firearm accessories, as well as clothing consistent with that worn by the suspects prior to their surrender.
One person sustained a gunshot wound to the upper left shoulder area and transported himself to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Ortiz and Pena were each charged with assault and battery by means of discharging a firearm, attempted assault and battery by means of discharging a firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card, carrying a firearm without a license (loaded), carrying a firearm without a license, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building.
Carrasquillo was charged with discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building and three counts of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon (firearm).
All three were transported to Nashua Street Jail for booking and expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
