WORCESTER, MA — A man was arrested Friday on a murder charge in connection with the 2019 shooting death of an 18-year-old.
Juan Ruiz, 26, of Worcester, was arrested on a warrant charging him with murder.
The warrant stems from an investigation into the July 2019 shooting death of Tafar Lewis.
On July 2, 2019, Lewis was shot and killed outside of 59 Gage Street.
Detectives from the Worcester Police Department Detective Bureau, Unresolved Homicide Unit, Crime Gun Unit and Gang Unit, with assistance from the Worcester Police Department EOP Unit, made the arrest.
Worcester Police detectives, working with the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, recently developed new information regarding the death of Lewis.
Detectives, working with prosecutors from Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early Jr.’s office, developed probable cause to charge three individuals with murder.
Two other men, Juan Otero and Mugisha Jean-Bosco, were also charged with murder in connection with Lewis’ death.
Otero and Jean-Bosco are in federal and state custody, respectively, on unrelated charges.
Ruiz was arrested without incident.
