Three charged in memorial destruction in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, MA — Three people have been charged in connection with the destruction of a candle memorial at Monte’s Park in June.

One defendant pleaded guilty on Thursday and was sentenced to 2.5 years in the House of Correction, according to the New Bedford Police Department.

The cases involving the other two defendants remain pending.

The investigation was conducted by Sergeant Roberto DaCunha and Detective Alan Kubik.

The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office assisted in the prosecution.
