Man charged with burglary in Auburn

AUBURN, NY — A Baldwinsville man faces burglary charges after allegedly breaking into an apartment and stealing shoes worth up to $1,500.

Auburn Police Department officers were dispatched to a residence on Owasco Street at approximately 1:10 a.m. on March 31 for a report of a male trying to break into a residence.

A complainant reported that the male had gained access to a second apartment and was inside the residence.

The male was observed exiting the second apartment and fleeing on foot down Owasco Street.

As the victim was coming home, they observed the suspect walking down the sidewalk.

The victim exited their vehicle and the suspect took off running, jumping over a fence into a backyard of a residence on Owasco Street.

The victim photographed the license plate of an unfamiliar vehicle in the area before returning to their residence.

The victim discovered that approximately 10 to 15 pairs of shoes valuing approximately $1,000 to $1,500 were missing from the apartment.

Officers identified a possible suspect as Matthew Rendino Jr. and began searching for a suspect vehicle registered to an address in Baldwinsville.

A BOLO was given to Onondaga County.

Approximately an hour later, Baldwinsville Police contacted Auburn Police and advised that they stopped the suspect vehicle with Rendino inside.

Rendino was detained by Baldwinsville Police and turned over to Auburn officers, who transported him to Auburn Police Department headquarters.

A search warrant was applied for the vehicle and a search was conducted.

All of the proceeds of the burglary were still inside the vehicle, police said.

Rendino, 19, of Baldwinsville, was charged with burglary in the second degree and petit larceny.

He was transported to Cayuga County Jail for CAP arraignment.
