AVON, CT — A daycare worker was arrested on charges of sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor following an incident at an early learning center.
Jan Carlos Berrios-Otero, 29, of Avon, was taken into custody April 1, 2026, at a residence in Middletown.
Avon police responded to the BrightPath Avon Early Learning and Child Care Center on Simsbury Road on March 31, 2026, after an administrator reported she believed a staff member may have had inappropriate contact with a child inside the center.
The alleged incident occurred March 30, 2026.
Police initiated an investigation and obtained an arrest warrant for Berrios-Otero.
He was located in Middletown and arrested without incident with assistance from the West Hartford and Middletown police departments.
Berrios-Otero was charged with one count of risk of injury to a minor and one count of sexual assault in the fourth degree.
He was transported to the Avon Police Department and is being held on a $250,000 court-set bond.
The investigation is ongoing.
Police are working with BrightPath administration to notify anyone who may have been impacted.
