Man charged with DWI after crash in Germantown

GERMANTOWN, NY — New York State Police responded to a one-car collision with injuries on State Route 9G on March 29, 2026.

Troopers from the Livingston barracks were dispatched by Columbia County 911 to the area of 4721 State Route 9G at approximately 8:08 p.m.

An investigation determined that a 2023 Subaru operated by Carlos Yonatan Chavaloc, 21, of Hudson, was traveling southbound on State Route 9G when it exited the roadway and struck a guide rail.

The vehicle continued into a wooded area where it struck a tree before coming to rest.

A passenger in the vehicle was airlifted to Albany Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Chavaloc was treated at the scene for complaints of pain and released.

During the investigation, Chavaloc displayed signs of intoxication.

Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were administered, which he failed.

Chavaloc was taken into custody and transported to State Police Livingston for processing.

He submitted a chemical breath test that yielded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.13%.

Chavaloc was charged with driving while intoxicated, an unclassified misdemeanor, and operating a motor vehicle with a BAC of 0.08% or higher, an unclassified misdemeanor.

He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Germantown Court on May 13, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
