SOUTHPORT, NY — A South Fallsburg man was arrested as a fugitive from justice after fleeing from a sheriff’s deputy.

Daniel T. Houck, 38, of South Fallsburg, New York, was arrested by the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office on a warrant out of the Lycoming County Sheriff’s Office in Pennsylvania for failure to appear on a retail theft charge.

A Chemung County Sheriff’s Road Patrol deputy observed Houck outside a residence in the town of Southport.

The deputy recognized Houck and was aware he had multiple active warrants locally and in Pennsylvania.

When the deputy turned on his emergency lights and exited his patrol car, Houck ran into a garage.

Houck eventually exited the garage and was taken into custody.

Houck was also charged with obstructing governmental administration in the second degree and resisting arrest, both class A misdemeanors.

He was arraigned by Southport Town Court as a fugitive from justice and remanded to the Chemung County Jail, awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania.

Houck was issued appearance tickets to appear in Southport Town Court at a later date for the additional charges.

He also had two outstanding arrest warrants for failure to appear on petit larceny charges, issued by Southport Town Court on Dec. 11.
