Man arrested on drug, burglary charges in Machias

MACHIAS, NY — A local man was arrested on drug and theft charges following the execution of a search warrant at his residence.

Andrew F. Crooks of Machias was arrested at about 11:15 a.m. March 30 and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance seventh degree, criminal possession of stolen property third degree, burglary third degree and grand larceny fourth degree.

The charges stem from a burglary complaint in the town of Great Valley that led to the execution of a search warrant at Crooks’ residence on Route 16 in the town of Machias.

The search warrant execution revealed Crooks to be in possession of methamphetamine and multiple stolen items from the burglary in Great Valley, according to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office.

Crooks was processed and arraigned at the town of Machias Court, where he was released and is due back in court at a later date.

The investigation was conducted by the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team, Road Patrol, Criminal Investigation Bureau and the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force, consisting of members from Salamanca Police Department and the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office.
