DUXBURY, MA — A man was arrested on multiple charges including assault with a dangerous weapon and drug trafficking following a reported fight at Island Creek Village on March 26.

Duxbury Police officers responded to the apartment complex that evening for a report of two men fighting in a hallway.

Upon arrival, officers were met by a woman who identified one of the men and reported that he had attacked her inside her apartment, placing a large butcher knife to her throat.

Officers located and immediately detained the suspected aggressor.

During an initial pat frisk for the reported weapon, officers located a bag containing assorted pills, two prescription pill bottles not bearing his name, and additional drug paraphernalia.

While detained, officers observed the man clenching his legs tightly as though concealing an object.

Recognizing this behavior as suspicious and concerned that a weapon may be hidden, officers conducted an additional pat frisk and located a bag containing Benzodiazepines, a Class B controlled substance.

Officers also located a bag with approximately 28 grams of a white powdery substance.

Preliminary testing indicated the substance was cocaine.

The butcher knife used in the attack was found in the apartment and seized as evidence.

The other man involved in the fight was determined to have been acting in self-defense.

The suspect was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery – domestic, assault and battery, disturbing the peace, possession of a Class B substance (subsequent offense), possession of a Class E substance (subsequent offense), and trafficking in cocaine.
