TRENTON, ME — A fire heavily damaged the Open Hearth Inn early Saturday morning, forcing two occupants to flee the building.
The Trenton Fire Department responded to the structure fire at 1147 Bar Harbor Road at approximately 2:55 a.m.
Crews arrived to find the building engulfed in flames that had spread rapidly throughout the inn.
Two people were inside at the time of the fire and escaped safely.
No injuries were reported.
Fifteen area fire departments assisted Trenton firefighters, including crews from Ellsworth, Lamoine, Hancock, Sullivan, Bar Harbor, Mount Desert, Penobscot, Blue Hill, Brooklin, Mariaville, Otis, Eastbrook, Sedgwick, Sorrento and Surry.
Investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene.
The extent of the damage and structural collapse prevented investigators from definitively determining the origin and cause of the fire.
The investigation indicates the fire was accidental.
