Two arrested in robbery at Wethersfield store

WETHERSFIELD, CT — Two people were arrested following a robbery at a Family Dollar store Saturday night.

Officers responded to 125 Silas Deane Highway at approximately 10 p.m. for a report of a robbery.

A store clerk reported that a man wearing a gray jacket displayed a black handgun and stole merchandise from the store.

The suspect was accompanied by a woman, and both fled the scene in a red Hyundai Elantra heading north on Silas Deane Highway toward Hartford before police arrived.

At 10:43 p.m., Hartford Police officers located the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop with the two suspects detained.

The victim positively identified both suspects after an in-field show up was completed.

The suspects were identified as Miguel Ramirez, 57, of New Britain, and Susette Mendes, 48, of Hartford.

During the investigation, Ramirez admitted to selling the stolen merchandise at a location in Hartford.

A knife was located on Ramirez’s person.

Ramirez was charged with robbery in the first degree, larceny in the sixth degree and conspiracy to commit larceny in the sixth degree.

Mendes was charged with robbery in the first degree, larceny in the sixth degree, conspiracy to commit larceny in the sixth degree and possession of a controlled substance.

Both Ramirez and Mendes were held on $50,000 bond each and are scheduled to be presented at New Britain Superior Court on March 30.
