Wrong-way driver arrested on DUI charge in Middlesex

MIDDLESEX, VT — Vermont State Police arrested a 21-year-old man on charges of gross negligent operation and driving under the influence after he was reported driving the wrong way on Interstate 89 early Saturday morning.

Troopers responded to a report of a wrong-way driver traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Interstate 89 near mile marker 51.8 in Berlin at 12:37 a.m. on March 28, 2026.

The vehicle was safely stopped near mile marker 56 in the southbound lane in Middlesex.

The operator was identified as Nolan Valkyrie, 21, of Starksboro.

Valkyrie was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Berlin Barracks for processing.

He was later released with a citation to appear in Washington County Superior Court – Criminal Division on June 25, 2026, at 8:30 a.m.
