SEYMOUR, CT — Police have a suspect in custody in connection with an armed carjacking that occurred in the area of South Main Street and Pearl Street on the morning of March 25.
The investigation revealed that an elderly male victim had provided a ride to an unknown male from the Waterbury train station, who requested transportation to New York.
The victim exited Route 8 and stopped at the Henny Penny in Seymour in an attempt to obtain fuel.
After being unable to secure funds for gas, the victim continued driving to the area of South Main Street and Pearl Street.
At that location, the passenger brandished a firearm and ordered the victim out of the vehicle.
The suspect then took possession of the victim’s vehicle and fled southbound on South Main Street.
A passerby later observed the victim walking along the roadside.
After learning of the incident, the passerby contacted the Seymour Police Department.
Patrol units immediately broadcast the incident to surrounding towns, cities, and beyond while detectives coordinated with multiple law enforcement agencies across the state.
License plate reader data indicated the vehicle was traveling along the southbound Merritt Parkway corridor.
Several hours later, law enforcement agencies in Westchester County, New York, located the vehicle on the FDR and identified the suspect, who was subsequently taken into custody by the NYPD without incident.
Seymour Police detectives obtained an arrest warrant for extradition through Milford Superior Court for the male offender.
The name of the offender will be released when he is extradited and arrested by the Seymour Police Department.
