Pedestrian struck by train in Lewiston

LEWISTON, ME — A man was struck by a train on the railroad tracks near Whipple Street this morning.

The Lewiston Police Department, Lewiston Fire Department and United Ambulance Service responded to the scene at approximately 10:42 a.m.

Responders found an adult male beneath a railroad car.

The man was extricated and transported to Central Maine Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary information indicates the train was traveling south toward Auburn at the time of the incident.

Investigators from the Railroad Authority are leading the investigation.

Railroad cars are blocking traffic on Libby Avenue and Strawberry Avenue.

Motorists are asked to seek alternate routes.

The identity of the victim has not been released.
