OSWEGO COUNTY, NY — New York State Police arrested a man on March 24, 2026, for attempting to engage in sexual misconduct with a minor.
David A. Dennis, 43, of Scriba, is charged with attempted dissemination of indecent material to a minor in the first degree, a class E felony.
He also faces one count of attempted rape in the second degree, a class D felony.
Dennis is additionally charged with three counts of failure to register as a sex offender, class E felonies.
The investigation began on Feb. 13, 2026, after it was reported that Dennis communicated with an individual he believed to be a 13-year-old female and solicited sexual contact.
It was further alleged that Dennis invited the individual to his residence for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity.
An investigation conducted by the New York State Police at SP Fulton, in conjunction with the Troop D Computer Crimes Unit, corroborated the allegations and established probable cause for his arrest.
Investigators also determined that Dennis was using digital communication accounts that were not properly registered with the New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services, as required.
The New York State Police were assisted by the Elkhart Police Department in Indiana, as well as the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, which assisted with the apprehension.
Dennis is a Level 3 registered sex offender.
He was processed and arraigned at Oswego County CAP Court and remanded to the Oswego County Correctional Facility.
