POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A woman was arrested on multiple charges after a traffic stop on March 21, 2026.
At approximately 8:17 p.m., a trooper assigned to the New York State Police Wappinger barracks conducted a traffic stop on a Nissan traveling northbound on South Road in the Town of Poughkeepsie for violations of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.
During the stop, the operator, identified as Shabrina N. Willis, 31, of Poughkeepsie, displayed signs of intoxication.
Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were administered, which Willis subsequently failed.
Further investigation revealed that three children, ages 3, 4, and 8, were in the vehicle at the time of the stop.
Willis was taken into custody and transported to SP Wappinger for processing, where she submitted a chemical breath test that yielded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.17%.
The children were safely released to a sober third party.
Willis was charged with three counts of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger (Leandra’s Law), class E felonies; Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 1st, a class E felony; Driving While Intoxicated, an unclassified misdemeanor; Driving While Intoxicated (BAC of 0.08% or more), an unclassified misdemeanor; and Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.
Willis was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Poughkeepsie Court on April 23, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.
