Police seek man for questioning in shooting in Newark

NEWARK, NJ — Police are seeking the public’s help in locating a man wanted for questioning in connection with a shooting that occurred Friday.

At approximately 8:46 p.m., police responded to Baldwin Avenue near Clinton Avenue on a call of a shooting.

Responding officers located a man who had been shot.

The victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment and is reportedly in stable condition.

Detectives investigating this incident seek Nahji Mayes, 29, of Newark, for questioning.

Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. urges anyone with information on the whereabouts of Mayes to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).
