15-year-old arrested in shooting in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA — A 15-year-old male was arrested and two ghost guns were seized in connection with a shooting Monday night.

At approximately 9:25 p.m., officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation on the 100 block of Dwight Street.

Evidence of a shooting was found, but no property damage or victims were located.

Members of the Springfield Police Real-Time Analysis Center reviewed city cameras and observed two suspects allegedly shooting at a group of individuals in the area of the Apremont Triangle.

The victims ran away and were not immediately located.

One of the suspects, later identified as a 15-year-old male, had allegedly broken into an apartment through a window on the 0-100 block of Mattoon Street.

Officers located and detained the suspect at approximately 10:15 p.m. and later placed him under arrest.

Officers then located two illegal firearms, both large-capacity ghost guns, and other evidence on Mattoon Street.

The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the Springfield Police Detective Bureau under the direction of Captain Trent Duda.

Due to his age, the suspect’s name, booking photo and specific charges will not be released.

The arrest was made under the direction of Lieutenants James Trubia and Ricardo Viruet.
