SCHUYLERVILLE, NY — A 19-year-old woman faces felony assault charges after allegedly biting a sheriff’s sergeant while in custody Thursday night.

Naydine E. Sargent, of Schuylerville, was charged with assault in the 2nd degree, a class D felony, and resisting arrest, a class A misdemeanor.

The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office responded to an active domestic incident call at 8:19 p.m. on Lafayette Street in the village of Schuylerville.

Sargent had been taken into custody for a separate reason when she allegedly freed herself from a handcuff and proceeded to bite a sheriff’s sergeant on his finger, resulting in physical injury.

She was arraigned before the Honorable Charles Sherman in the Saratoga Town Court and released on her own recognizance pending further proceedings.

The sheriff’s sergeant was treated by Community EMS and subsequently went to Saratoga Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
