MONTPELIER, VT — A California truck driver lost control of his tractor-trailer on Interstate 89 during a snowstorm Sunday morning, causing the vehicle to jackknife and become stuck on a guardrail.
Ashokkumar GodadBhai Menat, 49, of Union City, California, was traveling north on I-89 near mile marker 52 when he lost control of his 2024 Freightliner tractor-trailer at approximately 9:12 a.m. March 22, 2026, according to Vermont State Police.
The vehicle exited the right lane of travel due to winter conditions and collided with a large sign before jackknifing, police said.
The trailer became stuck on top of a guardrail.
Menat was wearing a seat belt and was not injured, police said.
The vehicle sustained minor damage to its front end and undercarriage.
The roadway was reduced to one lane of travel during the investigation, causing significant delays.
A small section of I-89 northbound was temporarily closed to remove the tractor-trailer from the interstate.
Road conditions at the time were slush and ice covered with cloudy skies and snow.
Berlin Fire Department, VTrans and LaRoche Towing & Recovery assisted at the scene.
